Welder — All Experience Levels
Sabre only utilizes skilled professionals to build and construct our products in accordance with AWS D1.1. Whether you're an experienced AWS-certified welder or just starting out, Sabre has a path for you — from Weld Trainee through Welder A and into Welder Fitter roles.
Primary Processes
- GMAW MIG — primary production method
- SAW — performed by long seamer and base welding operators
Additional Processes
- SMAW (Stick Welding) – used in field repairs
- Welding and Cutting Cobots
- Stainless Steel — rarely used
Welding Levels & Career Opportunities

What to expect at your weld test.
Every candidate receives a weld evaluation — but a failure on visual inspection does not disqualify you from employment. Part of the evaluation is assessing your capability and potential for learning.
Start here. Grow fast. We train you.
If you demonstrate the ability to produce acceptable welds and show the ability to learn during evaluation, you may be offered a Weld Trainee position — even if you didn't pass the visual inspection. Our 6-week program gets you fully production-ready.
Weeks 1 & 2
- Learn D1.1 welding requirements
- Practice reading and interpreting shop blueprints
- Read, interpret, and apply standard weld symbols
- Practice hundreds of fillet welds, lap joints, and groove joints replicating real production scenarios
- At end of week 2, take your 2G single bevel plate test based on your progression
Week 3
- Practice groove welds simulating long seam welds present on every structure
- Learn and practice gouging operations
- Identify weld defects and how to correct them
Weeks 4 & 5
- Shadow an experienced welder on how to proficiently weld on a structure
- Learn to start and complete products with high quality and in a timely manner
Week 6 — Final Week
- Time trials working independently to confirm you're fully prepared for the production floor
- After training, you'll be monitored and supported to ensure continued progression at Sabre
